The Youth Activist Forum (YAF)

Calling on all youth between the ages of 16 to 30! You are invited to attend an exciting three-day event in Ottawa.
Why should you participate in the fun and interactive YAF?
At the Forum you will:
- Meet new friends with and without disabilities from across Ontario!
- Learn about a variety of disability issues and advocacy methods
- And of course, have tons of fun participating in games and activities!
The Youth Activist Forum will feature:
Disability activists
Jeff Preston & Clara Madrenas creators of Cripz webcomic and Get Mobilized!
Joe Stramondo from ADAPT!
Stacey Milbern, author of Cripchick's weblog
Talented dancers and artists:
Propeller Dance, mixed-ability dance group
Alan Shain, comedian and story teller
Leslie Freeman, poet and dancer

- . While all youth are welcome to apply, at least 50% of the spaces are reserved for those who self-identify as having a disability.
- . Depending on fund-raising, we will try to cover the costs of travel, overnight accommodations, accessibility needs and meals.

NOTE: The Youth Activist Forum is also a participatory research project
funded by the Canadian Centre on Disability Studies that explores youth
involvement in disability politics in Ontario. Names of Youth Participants
will not be revealed in final reports or papers. You will receive more info
about the research with your application form.

event. The meetings are held online through Ideal conferencing. Training on
how to use this technology is available upon request.

This creative and interactive event will be lead by mentors from disability movements with the aim of fostering knowledge about all forms of disability activism in Ontario, from letter-writing, to blogging, to art. There will be a strong focus on building alliances in order to bring disability to other activist agendas and vice versa.
